Did you know that World Book Night takes place on 23 April? Books are a wonderful way to escape from the everyday life, and you’ll see we have plenty stacked up around Layhead Farm Cottages for our guests to borrow.
World Book Night is a national celebration of reading and books are given out across the UK with a focus on reaching those who don’t regularly read. Books are gifted through organisations including prisons, libraries, colleges, hospitals, care homes and homeless shelters, as well as by passionate individuals who give out their own books within their communities.
2018 will be the eighth World Book Night celebration.
Reading for pleasure is a globally recognised indicator in a huge range of social issues from poverty to mental health, yet in England alone, 36% of people don’t regularly read (DCMS, 2015).
Got some books you can share with your community? Run by The Reading Agency, a national charity that inspires people to become confident and enthusiastic readers, you can find out more about World Book Night and how you can get involved. Find out more HERE
