5 Fabulous Family Christmas Trip Ideas from Layhead

We love Christmas at Layhead. Regular festive guests will know about our Christmas Eve sing-along when we drink mulled wine and eat warm mince pies. We are currently sorting through our Christmas lights in readiness to start illuminating the cottages.

If you’re planning a trip to Layhead between now and Christmas, here are 5 fabulous family Christmas trip ideas to enjoy.

Magical Santa Trip
Alas, many of the large department stores where Santa used to have his grotto each year have all but gone. So where does Santa hang out these days, so children can visit him? Here in Yorkshire, he has found a wonderful alternative.

Book yourself and your little ones on a magical canal boat journey and Santa will present a Christmas goodie bag to them. Skipton Boat Trips has managed to persuade Santa to spend some time with them each week in December. Whilst the children get to meet Mr Claus, mum and dad can enjoy a well-deserved cup of coffee and mince pie.

Skipton Yuletide Festival
Tie in your Magical Santa Trip with a visit to Skipton Christmas market on Sunday 2nd or Sunday 9th of December 2018. Skipton Castle, one of the best-preserved castles in the country, overlooks the main road through the town, which gives the market a special feel as you wander around the stalls buying Christmas presents.

Stockeld Park Enchanted Forest and Santa’s Grotto
Just over an hour away from Layhead is the fabulous Stockeld Park. They have Winter Illuminations in the Enchanted Forest, you can get lost in the illuminated maze, skate a real ice-skating rink and even go Nordic Skiing. Children of all ages will love Stockeld.

Embsay Santa Special
If you’re into steam trains, here’s one a little closer to Layhead. Embsay Santa’s Special. Santa will be on the train giving out presents to well-behaved children throughout December. Book your tickets now (they book up fast) and let your little ones enjoy the ride.
